Italians earned $11 500 at the tournament « St. Petersburg’s foil».

The prize fund of the tournament - 50000 U.S. dollars - was established personally by  president of the International Fencing Federation, Alisher Usmanov.

Winners of the competition in an individual championship for men and women get $6000 each, silver prize winners receive $4000 and sportsmen who win the third place get $ 1500. In the team tournament a winner team receives $6000, a team-finalist earns $4000 and a team which wins the third price gets $2000.

Thus, three Italian women - Valentine Vetstsali who took the first place, Arriana Errigo who won a silver medal and bronze prize winner Margarita Granbassi earned together $11 500.

After the victory at the Olympic Games in Beijing, a distinguished Italian foil fencer Valentina Vetstsali said that she wouldn’t leave sport. Apparently, a collection of five Olympic gold medals and ten of the highest dignity won by Valentina at world championships seemed not enough to her.

However, we can understand Vetstsali. Today there isn’t any foil fencer of her class which means that she can enjoy not only the training process but also victories at the competitions of the highest level. Let me mention that for each start Vetstsali prepares as a professional. Before the tournament in St. Petersburg she trained with the coach individually during two hours and before each bout Valentina perfected her techniques and tactical practices that she might need it in a bout with a certain opponent. As a result, Valentine won another victory in the final and defeated her countrywoman -Arriana Errigo. After awarding Vetstsali said that she had added the 65th anniversary award to her collection. She also promised her Russian fans that she would definitely come to St. Petersburg once again next year to bring them joy.
